It always takes so much time and discipline to sit down before going to bed and make sure you will keep breathing and your heart will keep beating while you are sleeping…
Doesn’t it…?
What…no?
Oh well, you definitely meant to break out in hives when you pet your dog last time, didn’t you?
You didn’t??
And this must happen to you….When people around you are sick you chant, “I will not get sick, I will not get sick, I will not get sick” all day when you are alone and whenever you see anyone. And then you don’t ever get sick, right?
No?
Well, my goodness, how do you survive the night’s sleep, why do you get itchy when you touch certain animals, and why are you the only one in your family that gets sick?
Or (even more confusing) why are you the only one who didn’t get sick that time everyone had the flu (or whatever it was) and you took care of them all non-stop for a week?
What the heck is happening? Who (or what) is controlling these physical responses? Who decides what’s going to happen?
Are some people just “luckier” than everyone else?
Or is it that some people pray more (or better) than others?
Who is in charge here? What is happening to all of us?
We understand that we cannot buy things like health or life, but how do I “keep running” all night when I’m not paying attention? Or not paying anything? I have never hired some kind of “night sitter” to keep my lungs breathing, my heart beating, my brain synapsing, my hair growing or my temperature in the correct range.
Although we might agree that it would be worth the money if it helped.
Have you, or do you know anyone who has?
Yet, we all go willingly to sleep…what?! Am I always just hoping everything will keep humming along without my awareness?
No, I'm not, but somehow, IT DOES!!!
Is it just by chance I wake up?
Are these things just coincidences?
I don’t believe so. I think someone is in charge. Someone most of us are completely unaware of, or if we are aware, we ignore, avoid thinking about, try to silence, and insult regularly.
Maybe that description sounds a little like God to some, because God does give life and take life away - we hear that every time we attend a funeral. I do actually believe in God. However, that’s not who (or what) I am going to present in this email today.
I want to introduce you to your
SUBCONSCIOUS (ta-da!)
Literally, tons of books have been written about this thing we call the subconscious…
I’d like to add an ounce of information to this pile of knowledge.
I will begin by re-introducing you to the two main parts of your own consciousness(and even here there is some argument-but for now, we will be content with these definitions)
…the conscious mind (consisting of things I am aware of)
…and the subconscious mind (containing all the things I am NOT aware of).
For now, that’s it. Think about this until next time.
This will be fun!
Thanks for being in this with me and I’m glad we are traveling down this road together!

PS- now don’t get all frustrated, we're going to go slow and make some sense of all of this.
